Clancy, 32, from Duxbury was taken to hospital by police on Jan. 25, after allegedly strangling her 5-yearold daughter Cora, and 3-year old son Dawson. She also left her infant with severe injuries before trying suicide.
Now, Callan, Callan’s 8-month-old brother, is being charged with additional offenses. Callan was also pronounced dead at Boston Children’s Hospital just two days after Callan.
Clancy, who was on maternity leave at Massachusetts General Hospital, at the time of the tragedy had previously shared her anxieties about motherhood on social media.
Clancy was diagnosed by NBC Boston with postpartum Depression. Her family didn’t respond to questions about whether Clancy experienced psychosis. Clancy was not paralysed, but it appears that she suffered from postpartum Depression.

Clancy, who was also admitted to the hospital, is being held on two counts of homicide, three counts of assault and battery using a deadly weapon, and three counts of strangulation. The office of the district attorney has not yet announced any additional charges. Although no motive has been established by authorities, Clancy’s case has led to speculation and discussions about postpartum depression in mothers. The shocking tragedy left many community members still in shock and gathered at Duxbury for a vigil on Thursday. On Friday, Clancy’s husband had received more than $400,000 in donations through a GoFundMe fundraising campaign.
“It is incomprehensible that such tragic things would happen in a familial anywhere, but here are we,” said the Rev. The vigil was attended by Bill Williams, Holy Family Church.
What’s Postpartum Psychosis?
The Cleveland Clinic states that postpartum psychosis can be a serious, rare but treatable mental condition. You may experience hallucinations or delusions as well as mood changes and depersonalization.
According to Kylie Chaffin, a licensed mental health counselor with Perinatal Mental Health about PPP patients’ hallucinations, “They’ll experience hallucinations where their baby’s face won’t be their baby anymore,”
PPP is more common among those with mental health issues such as major depressive disorder or bipolar syndrome. The Cleveland Clinic also lists risk factors such sleep deprivation, hormonal changes and other factors. Postpartum depression is more common than PPP, which affects approximately 15% to.2% of all births, according to Postpartum Support International.
